We had a minor problem at church this weekend - a spider infestation in the nursery. It was really icky, hundreds of little spiders and webs stretching across everything. I still feel a little crawly. Needless to say, I didn't have my Sunday School class in the regular room today. The exterminator is supposed to be coming this week to take care of it.
I watched a really good movie last night - The Pianist. I can't really say that I enjoyed it, because it's not really that kind of film, but it certainly was engrossing. Thought-provoking too. A lot of it is a little hard to take, but the scary thing is that stuff really did happen. Anyway, I'd recommend it.

We had some pretty wild thunderstorms here last night. For about 2 hours, the sky was constantly being lit up by lightning. I actually saw the lightning a couple times, not just the flash in the sky. The storm must have been nearby, because the thunder was really loud - it made my windows shake, even. And of course there was the pouring rain. Buckets and buckets. My power went out once, but by the time I found my flashlight, it was back on again. Just enough that I had to reset all my clocks. Anyhow, today is looking like it will be a gorgeous, sunny day. Hooray!

I went out to Mahoney State Park yesterday for a conference about AAC (alternative and augmentative communication). It was really interesting, I learned some good stuff. The setting was gorgeous too. I'm going to have to go back out there sometime. They have hiking trails and paddleboats and a theatre and mini-golf. Lots to do!
I am getting very excited about coming home...only 42 sleeps now!

I encountered my first rude driver today while I was out on my bike. The bike trail I take crosses a few residential streets, usually with a yield sign for the cyclist. Anyway, I was approaching one such crossing, and saw a car coming. So, I slowed down so that the timing would be right for me to pass behind the car. I must have scared the guy or something, because he stopped suddenly. By then, if I had stopped, I would have fallen over, so I kept going. He honked at me and seemed to indicate that I should have waited on the other side. Well, if he hadn't stopped, there wouldn't have been a problem!
I booked a plane ticket yesterday to Arkansas. I'm going to a wedding there next month. Not only am I excited to see my friends again, I am looking forward to getting out of Lincoln for a few days. The route I take to get to Arkansas is very much round-about - I northeast from here to Minneapolis, Minnesota, then southeast to Memphis, Tenessee, then west to Little Rock, Arkansas. I looked at it on a map, it is almost a circle. I was going to drive, but my parents freaked out at how far away Arkansas is.

Today was my first day of seeing clients for the summer. I had a really good time, it was a good start to the semester. I've also started my next two summer classes. The good part is that the instructor has canceled class on Fridays, and I don't have anything else on that day, so it's three-day weekends for me for the whole summer. Yippee!
I've been getting out on my bike now that the weather is nice practically every day. Well, this week there have been some pretty awesome thunderstorms, but it's still warm. There's a pretty decent bike trail a couple blocks behind my apartment building. About half of it is paved, and the rest is gravel. To tell you how flat Lincoln is, I manage the whole ride in only two gears (I go about 4 miles each direction). I do notice that the homeward direction is a little downhill, because it is definitely easier going.

All in all, I had a pretty good day today. I spent the morning with my advisor's twins. They were a lot of fun, and the babies scheduled their naps so I only had one awake at a time. That made it alot easier.
I also got eaten alive. The young adults' group had a picnic at a park this evening, and the mosquitos were everywhere. This is a little concerning, as the first bird found to have West Nile virus in Nebraska was found in Lincoln. I'm not terribly worried, though.

I have probably one of the oddest tales to tell...
Last week, a guy showed up at church here. He came to Lincoln to play football for the Lincoln Capitals in the Indoor Arena Football League, but just got a bunch of empty promises. Name is Josh Collins (he's going to make it big someday, so watch for it). Anyway, this is odd because he is from Surrey. He lives about five minutes down the street from my home. He goes to CLA and is a former associate youth pastor there. We have a lot of mutual friends/acquaintances. My friend Abigail and I have spent the last few days showing him around Lincoln, doing tourist-y type things with him, like touring the capitol building and wandering around the downtown. He flew out today, going back home. He's hoping for the chance to play football somewhere yet, I hope it comes through for him.
So, that is my odd tale. We both found it really strange that we live so close and know so many of the same people, yet never met before. Abigail and I are planning on seeing him again when we come to Vancouver in August. Only 8 weeks and a few days left. I can't wait to be home!
