Keeping in touch with those back home, and those everywhere else...

Well, today was my last day of my first summer class. There is something to be said for short, quick classes. You only have to remember back a week for the information for the test. Don't get me wrong, it was a lot of information, but very recent.

I have next week off from class, but I still have things to do. I have meetings with all of my clinical supervisors for the summer. I'm very happy with my clinic assignments this semester, I got some that I've been wanting for a while. Of course, do to the lovely privacy act, I can't tell you about it. However, if you think about my interests, you should be able to sort out why I'm happy.

I received a very interesting book today from the lady who runs the Resource Room (library) at the Barkley Center. It's called the "Canadian Intelligence Examination," published in 1940. Sample question - "Say '1, 3' backward." Everybody pass? Someone here saw the book and said "Canadian Intelligence? Isn't that an oxymoron?" Now, I don't think that was very nice.

Well, today was the field trip to the cadaver lab. Whooopee. The floor was very interesting :) I couldn't stand to look at the "exhibits," but I listened to explanations and stared at my feet. Thankfully, the smell wasn't too bad.

I am very thankful for a letter I received....Barkley Memorial Center has decided to give me a scholarship of $900 for next year. That will help me out a lot.

I realized today that yesterday was Victoria Day...not like it made any difference to me. Next Monday is Memorial Day, I'm looking forward to that day off for sure.

I made it back to Lincoln, but not with much sleep. Overnight train again. I got a bit of shut-eye, but not quite enough. After pulling in to the Lincoln train station at somewhere near 4 am, I went home and crawled into bed. Now, that felt nice.

It's gotten really warm here lately. No, I'm not complaining. However, my roommates are re-awakening and moving back in. The many-legged variety. Icky. Some pretty big spiders have found their way in. I don't know how.

I spent some time today putting my notes and such away from last semester, and getting ready for the start of summer classes. First one starts Monday. Yippee :(

Well, today was a gorgeous day in Denver. Sunny, warm, such a change from Saturday. I sat outside reading for a bit too long, ended up with a lovely farmer tan. While I was sitting on the back patio, this big bull snake (2.5 feet long, at least) slithered across right in front of me. Scared me a bit. Only after the fact did I find out that they are harmless.

Today we went on a wild buffalo hunt. There is a park here in Denver where there is a herd of wild buffalo. Unfortunately, we couldn't spot any, but climbed around a bit and had a great view of Pike's Peak, the highest mountain in Colorado. Don't worry, I took pictures.

We also went out to the Red Rocks Amphitheater. It is a huge, natural, outdoor concert venue. Absolutely gorgeous. It seats about 8,000 people. Took pictures of that too. It was totally breath-taking. I was completely amazed at the beauty.

Today was a good day in Denver - the snow is gone, melted away. I got to sleep in a bit this morning, that was nice.

I saw some more of Denver today. My aunt and I went to a neat little street called Gaylord, which is a row of cute little shops nestled in a residential neighbourhood. Then we went to Cherry Creek, a shopping centre. One of the best bookstores I've ever seen is there - it's called The Tattered Cover. Four floors of books, with comfy leather chairs to read in. I could have stayed there all day. We also wandered around through a really cool kids store called Kazoo & Company. Lots of neat stuff, I could have easily spent a lot of money there.

Well, here I am in Denver. It has finally stopped snowing. Yeah, I know. Snow in May. It's trying to clear up now. The snow was wet and yucky.

The train ride was quite an adventure. It actually wasn't too bad. Lots of leg room, it was really nice to be able to stretch my legs out almost straight. Definitely beats an airplane or Greyhound bus. The seats actually reclined quite a ways too, so I could sort of get some sleep. I think I would do Amtrak again, it's not something I would avoid.

I'm feeling pretty sleepy though. After that long train ride, no wonder. Also, the elevation here is 6,000 feet, so my brain isn't getting as much oxygen as it is used to.

I am done! Such a wonderful feeling to have nothing hanging over my head for the moment. All of my exams went fairly well, at least I think so. They were a bit easier than I expected, not that I'm complaining.

Last night I went to the SONICFLOOd concert in Omaha. It was awesome! Their opening band was a new group called Everyone. They were pretty good, I was impressed. Of course, SONICFLOOd was great too. The concert was at a church, but it wasn't a huge church, so we (I went with Heather, a girl from church) had good seats. Far enough away that we weren't overwhelmed by the sound, but also pretty close - something like the 8th or 9th row, I didn't count. It was really loud and really fun. Although I didn't keep track, I'm pretty sure that SONICFLOOd played more songs written by other people than their own original music. Not that I minded. It was a great concert, I'd definitely go see them again, and recommend that you see them if you get the chance.

I was a little worried about my car on the drive to Omaha. It's about 45 minutes away, and for a big chunk of the highway, the speed limit is 75 miles per hour, or 120 kilometres per hour. My car was making noises like it was working really hard to go that fast, so I backed off some and that helped. Still, it didn't sound too happy.

Tonight I leave for Denver for a few days to visit my aunt and uncle. I'm taking Amtrak there, which will be a new experience. Unfortunately, the train comes into Lincoln either really late at night or really early in the morning, depending on how you look at it and which direction you are going. Anyway, I'm looking forward to my trip, and looking forward to getting out of Lincoln for a few days. I've been going a bit stir-crazy; all I do is go to school, come home, and go to church on the weekends. I can't wait to get a change of scenery. However, the weather forecast for tomorrow for Denver is snow. Can you believe it?!?!? I really hope they are wrong....

Well, considering that it is Finals Week, it's been a pretty okay week. One more exam left tomorrow, then I am done!

One bright spot this week was yesterday. I baby-sat my advisor's baby twins. So much fun! They are so cute and have little personalities as their very own. I had a blast playing with them.

Then, today, a little luck came my way. I won two tickets to the SONICFLOOd concert tomorrow night, along with their latest CD, from the local Christian radio station. I think that will be quite an awesome way to end off the semester. I'm really looking forward to it, I can't wait. I'll definitely let you know what I thought.

Well, here I am, about to embark on that wonderful adventure known as Finals Week. I've got three exams this week, and then this semester is over. I am way past ready for it to be done.

Had a tornado watch in effect here earlier this afternoon. Nothing happened, just announcements every 5 minutes on the radio. Did have some really cool thunderstorms here today, though. Although at 3am, thunder and lightning isn't that wonderful.

I went and counted up how many days it is until I come home. I have a big 4-month calendar on my wall, so it makes the numbering easy. The total right now is 90 more sleeps. Less than I thought, but more than I'd like.
